CLASSES FOR 2019

Dear Parents and Students,

Just some help with the new classes that are on offer for 2019

CONTEMPORARY LEVELS - This year we will add two new levels as contemporary becomes more popular each year. We now offer a Level 2 for 8-9yrs on Saturdays, and a Level 3 for 9-10yrs on Wednesdays. We will continue to have Level 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and Snr open contemp for those who have done previous levels and are moving up.

CLASSICAL BALLET - This year we are making changes to RAD Ballet classes, firstly, we will be covering RAD technique in Primary, Gr 1, 2 and 3 ballet but will be introducing a new examinable syllabus - La Beaute, that allows us to focus more on technique and less on covering a large body of exercises that is too difficult to cover without two lessons per week. Therefore these grades will be one longer lesson per week instead of two shorter lessons per week. We do still however encourage keen exam students to take a second technical class such as jazz or contemporary and this will hopefully allow younger students the time to do so.
From Gr 4 ballet upwards we will continue to cover the RAD Grades syllabus and students do need to take two lessons per week. For Senior ballet classes, the RAD have introduced a lovely new repertoire examinable syllabus and we will introduce Level 2 (covering Coppelia and Giselle) and Level 4 (Swan Lake and the Nutcracker) to students in 2019.

We will also have Pre-Primary/Creative ballet classes for 4-6yrs on Wednesdays (no exams)
and Open Pointe classes recommended for Gr 5 and up Ballet levels - Thursdays

ENCORE MUSICAL THEATRE - This is new work that has optional exams and we will be introducing 4 of our favourite levels in 2019:
Broadway Baby - a half hour musical theatre class for 6-7yrs on Fridays
Level 2 Encore - for 8-10yrs on Saturdays
Level 3 Encore - for 9-12yrs on Fridays
And Level 5 Encore - for 11-13yrs on Wednesdays

TAP EVOLUTION - This was a new syllabus for 2018 that we will continue with in 2019
Primary 2 - for 5-7yrs on Saturdays
Junior 1 for 8-9yrs (and previous level 2 tappers) on Fridays
Junior 2 for 9-11yrs (and previous Level 3 tappers) on Tuesdays
Elem 1 for 10-13yr (and previous Level 5 tappers) on Thursdays
And Senior advanced for 13yrs and over on Thursday evenings.

URBAN IGNITION HIP HOP - Will continue with
Foundation/Level 1 for 6-8yrs on Wednesdays
Level 3 - for 9-11yrs on Wednesdays
Level 5 - for 12-14yrs on Wednesdays
And Open classes for Senior Advanced 15yrs and over

PERFORMANCE CLASSES -
Will once again be by invite only and require certain technical classes to be eligible. If you have been in these groups previously you do not need a second invitation, however many students will obviously need to change levels according to age groups. Please note Junior Stars and Kids on Stage will now be Thursday afternoons instead of Fridays.

SONG AND DANCE -
Will remain with 3 levels on Wednesdays. Students should be Year 8 or above for Senior/Advanced

ACROBATICS -
Bella will continue with training the students in the Acro Arts Syllabus.
Beginners Tumbling - 5-9yrs Wednesdays will start with Level 1 work
Prep Acro - for 8-12yrs Saturdays will cover Level 2 work
Intermediate will be split to two groups - Level 3 on Saturdays
And Level 4 on Fridays
Advanced Acro - Level 5 on Saturdays.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT STUDENTS WILL BE ASSESSED AT THE BEGINNING OF TERM TO ENSURE EVERYONE IS IN THE CORRECT LEVEL FOR ABILITY AND OF COURSE SAFETY.

JAZZ -
All levels of Jazz will remain covering the Jazz Addict syllabus that covers some important classical technique, strength exercises, turns, leaps, lyrical work, commercial jazz (in older levels) and musical theatre.
Primary Jazz - 5-7yrs on Saturdays
Junior 1 jazz - 7-8yrs on Fridays
Junior 2 jazz - 8-9yrs on Thursdays
Junior 3 jazz - 9-11yrs on Fridays
Elem 1 jazz - 10-11yrs (if previously taken Jnr 3 jazz) on Tuesdays
Elem 2 jazz - 11-12yrs (and previously taken Elem 1 jazz) Thursday's
Elem 3 jazz - Fridays
Intermediate 1 jazz - Tuesdays
Intermediate 2/3 jazz - Mondays
And Snr Adv 2 and Open classes - Thursdays

We realise it can be difficult to follow the varying levels so hopefully this can be helpful when choosing your correct classes for 2019.

HAVE FUN!

GUIDELINES FOR ACRO LEVELS

It is important to comply with level requirements for the AcroDance classes. These classes focus on flexibility, strength, balance, limbering and tumbling through appropriate progressions for age and ability. Students are encouraged, as with all classes, to work outside of lessons to see progress. All AcroDance classes require students to be comfortable stretching and doing various strength exercises, as well as being on the hands for the majority of the lessons. Teachers will progress students to the next level when they feel the student is ready.

Beginners tumbling (5-8yrs) – working towards a good cartwheel and forward roll, working towards splits, and a backbend bridge from sitting.

Prep AcroDance (8yrs and above) – a good cartwheel, neat forward roll, splits and a backbend bridge from sitting or standing.

Intermediate AcroDance – cartwheels on both sides, handstand forward roll, confident headstand, front or back walkover, backbend bridge from standing, splits front or side.

Advanced AcroDance - cartwheels on both sides and one-handed, front and backwards walkovers and variations, splits (right, left and side), confident bridge work, chest roll and stand, head stand.
